Townsville by Anita Rochon is a play that is currently in development with The Chop. It will be given a staged reading in Spring 2007.
An albino elephant is given to the young mayor of Townsville but left to starve in his office. The prettiest of three twins has gone missing. The roads are patched with bubble gum then sprinkled with baby powder in preparation for this weekend's sexy dance party. Welcome to Townsville, a place where dreams come true, especially when you stay in bed.
Townsville is a place that looks and smells a lot like home. The script is composed of not just spoken text but scripted movement and gesture, with an equal ratio of talk / silence / movement. This large-cast, (17-22 performers) satirical neo-bouffoneske piece follows the story of a town's peculiar demise through the intertwining lives of a group of reigning young residents.
