The Company

The Chop is a Vancouver-based theatre company that's been building and touring shows since 2004. We began by using elements of the clown and bouffon traditions in our work, always seeking to expand the form in a way that is relevant and fresh. We are committed to new creating theatre that explores a live, vital and intimate connection with an audience so our work tends to be interactive and varying in form.

To date we've developed and produced 8 new pieces of theatre that have ranged from the intimate and biographical 2 Truths + 1 Lie = Proof at HIVE in 2006 to the youthful and kinetic Townsville at Magnetic North in 2008 as well as nationally touring the award-winning Patti Fedy trilogy. In all of our projects we seek to collaborate with the finest artists from a variety of disciplines from across the country.

We've designed shows for as little as two people in a bathroom to playing to sold-out houses of 250. Sometimes irreverent and often funny, our plays showcase strong character work, elegant staging and an evolving investigation into the performer/audience relationship. The partnerships that we've forged have meant that we've been able to realize work that is ambitious and original.
